Paul Simon is one of the most prolific and lauded songwriters in music history, and despite the release of his first album in five years, it doesn't appear he will be taking the stage any time soon, or ever again for that matter.
Simon, 81, recently revealed that he has lost almost his total hearing in his left ear, making his return to the stage for live performances "extremely" unlikely.
Simon told The Sunday Times, "Quite suddenly I lost most of the hearing in my left ear, and nobody has an explanation for it. So everything became more difficult. My reaction to that was frustration and annoyance; not quite anger yet, because I thought it would pass, it would repair itself."
Doctors haven't even been able to explain Simon's hearing loss either, and have offered no official diagnosis on his issue.
While his frustration at his condition continues to grow, Simon did admit that he was not "entirely disappointed" to have left his live performance days behind him, claiming that he had grown tired of playing many of his songs on stage.
He explained, "The songs of mine that I don't want to sing live, I don't sing them. Sometimes there are songs that I like and then at a certain point in a tour, I'll say, 'What the f*** are you doing, Paul?'"
