You know, we've found that just not a lot of good can come from TikTok.

One of the latest challenges that gained popularity on the app is the "TikTok KIA Challenge," which guides users in stealing certain models of KIA and Hyundai cars.

One Plano teen really took this challenge to heart, and was recently arrested in connection with 38 vehicle thefts, and/or attempted vehicle thefts, primarily of KIA and Hyundai cars talked about in the challenge!

Plano Police Department spokesman Jennifer Chapman told WFAA the "KIA Challenge" has been a problem for police departments nationwide for months now.

She said, "A lot of these cars have push starts. Technology is different."  Rania Mankarious, CEO of Crimestoppers of Houston, added, "These young brains are living for the thrill. They are living for the engagement online. They are living for the views."

Chapman says the teen was finally apprehended after a Plano homeowner caught him in the act.  He was able to hold the teen until the police arrived.

Plano police say anti-theft devices, like visible steering wheel locks, can encourage a thief to look somewhere else.

Richardson police also recommended several anti-theft measures for your vehicle:

-Park in well-lit areas, close to entrances/exits where there is more pedestrian traffic where someone may notice suspicious activity.

-Use vehicle alarm systems that can draw attention to someone breaking into a car.

-Consider brake or steering wheel locks (visible deterrents), ignition kill switches, the goal is to slow the thief down and create layers of security to increase the chances of them being detected and reduce risk of theft.

-Tracking devices/services such as LoJack and OnStar to aid with recovery and apprehension.
