There's a wave of crime affecting Southwest Florida: port-a-potties have been going missing.

An unusual crime for sure, and of course we have questions.  But since it's happening in Florida, that's probably enough of an answer we need.

Residents of a Buckingham, Florida neighborhood have said ongoing construction has increased the amount of port-a-potties in the area, but security cameras have captured mysterious persons have been seen loading them into a truck, and then driving off.

But theories are abound to why these toilets are going missing.

Resident Steve Mammen told ABC7, "I take the dog for a ride on the golf cart every afternoon. After that we discovered it was gone I noticed it at a different site."

The toilet was dumped on an empty lot across from a work site about a block away from where it was taken, and Mammen believes he may know why it was "borrowed."

"They didn't have a port a potty so they couldn't get an inspection without the port a potty so they just come and nab this one," he said.

The property owner/builder made contact with the port-a-potty company who was able to replace what was taken and retrieve what was stolen.
