Kids from a neighborhood in Wyandotte, Michigan will have to look elsewhere to trick-or-treat tonight, as their neighborhood as officially been closed for Halloween festivities.
Apparently, a home in the neighborhood is so infested with roaches, trick-or-treating was canceled in order to prevent "further roach migration."
A letter to residents from Wyandotte's city engineer said the city's plans to cancel trick-or-treating is "in the best interest of the citizens."
Wyandotte's city council voted to shut down trick-or-treating to "prevent roaches from grabbing on to kids' costumes" and entering other homes."
There were also concerns that even if the trick-or-treaters were to kill some of the roaches by stepping on them, their eggs could survive and be tracked all over the neighborhood.
Wyandotte resident and City Councilman Todd Hanna told the Detroit Free Press that the city is "desperately" trying to get rid of the pests.
