For parents with children in the Lawrence County School District in Tennessee, you better make you your child doesn’t get sick all year.
The district announced that this year, notes from a doctor will no longer be accepted to excuse your child’s absence from school. No matter the reason, your child will be either be marked present, or absent.
You can see how this potentially become a problem, as this encourages kids to go to school no matter if they are feeling ill.
Director of Schools Michael Adkins said during a recent school board meeting, “If you have the sniffles, that is fine. You are going to have them when you go to work one day. We have all gone to work sick and hurt and beat up.”
According to WSMV, even if a sick child goes to school but has to leave early because, you know, THEY’RE SICK, the child will be marked as “tardy.”
Obviously, a lot of parents are upset at this new policy. Rebecca Sanchez, the mother of a 10-year-old who missed a lot of classes last year “between the strep throat and the flu,” said “I have never been for or against homeschool, but because of this new policy, it has definitely changed my mind.”
