The Grace Church School in Noho in New York City understands that families come in all shapes and sizes, but has their latest mandate in order to become more inclusive taken things a step too far?

The school has encouraged its students to stop using the words "mom," "dad," and even the word "parents" when referring to their parental figures because, according to school officials, those words make "assumptions" about kids' home lives.

Instead of "parents," the school recommends using terms like "grown-ups," "folks," "family" or "guardians" when describing their parents, and also suggests using "caregiver" instead of "nanny/babysitter."

The school even issued a 12-page guide explaining their "mission of inclusivity."

The guide states, according to the NY Post, "Families are formed and structured in many ways. At Grace Church School, we use inclusive language that reflects this diversity. It's important to refrain from making assumptions about who kids live with, who cares for them, whether they sleep in the same place every night, whether they see their parents, etc."
