Couch potatoes, rejoice!  You can now gain muscle while never having to lift a weight, again!

At least, that's the presumption with this new pill researchers at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis believe.

The team, led by Bahaa Elgendy, Ph.D., a medicinal chemist and associate professor of anesthesiology, are developing a pill that mimics the physical boost of working out!  They've had success administering the pill in rodents and are confident the same results will be seen in humans.

This pill should not become an excuse to never hit the gym again, though, as Elgendy's ultimate vision is to help those who cannot by regular means, build muscle mass.

He told Fortune, "We're not saying by any means or forms that people shouldn't exercise, but [the drug] hopefully will help people who cannot exercise. And, in other cases, it can complement exercise programs to give more benefits to patients as well."

Still, Elgendy realizes why people are so interested in the drug.  "Or, it can be combined with the new wave of drugs: anti-diabetic drugs and drugs that are used for obesity and weight loss," he added.
