Texas wasn't the only ones dealing with major winter weather last week.
Firefighters in Plainfield, Illinois were forced to deliver a baby in of all places, the parking lot of a Jimmy John's restaurant, because a snowstorm prevented them from safely making it to the hospital in time.
Chief Jon Stratton told FOX 32 in Chicago, "The call actually came in at the parking lot of Jimmy John's, which is actually kind of crazy because you know Jimmy John's 'freaky fast' and this was a freaky fast birth."
Stratton said it was only ten minutes from when the call to 911 was placed to the birth of the healthy baby girl. Stratton said, "Once I got them into the parking lot, I opened the door up and started the examination of mama and noticed we're having a baby."
Believe it or not, this is the first time either Stratton or Lieutenant Bryan Gallup delivered a baby on the job. "It was really nasty weather out there and it made that day turn into a sunshine day. I mean, it's so overwhelming to be able to do this and to change somebody's life. It's crazy, it's phenomenal," Stratton said.
The family was taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet where mom and baby are doing great!
