It all started when one of now 71-year-old Steve Boone's customers bet him he couldn't run a marathon.
Since the wager was placed, the customer has run a few dozen. Well, Steve is inching towards 800.
Affectionately known as "Tan Ben Franklin" for his look while running, Boone is currently training for his 777th marathon, the 2021 virtual Chevron Houston Marathon.
Because of that fateful bet, Boone is now married, having met his wife at the 1996 Boston Marathon. The pair have traveled the world together, visiting all 50 states and all 7 continents, and the couple even started a running club that now has close to 5,000 members. They also created a program to get kids interested in running.
Despite his accomplishments and his recognition, Boone insists he's just a regular guy.
He told ABC13, "We're not world-class runners, never have been. We just run. You can make a difference just being that person in the neighborhood that is always out there, no matter how bad the weather is."
