The FIFA World Cup starts in a little less than a week, and North Texas is well-represented on the United States National team with three players from the area: FC Dallas's Jesus Ferreira, Plano's Kellyn Acosta and Little Elm's Weston McKennie.
With hopes to inspire the three, "Ted Lasso," from the popular Apple+ television series of the same name, put up inspirational messages all across the Metroplex to cheer our boys to victory!
Ferreira was born in Colombia, but grew up in McKinney while his dad, David, played for FC Dallas. He currently plays for FC Dallas.
His billboard read: "Jesús Ferreira, now that's a name. Sounds like a holy sports car, which makes sense because whenever you're playing, I just tell folks to buckle up and hold on."
Acosta grew up in Plano, and currently plays for LAFC in Major League Soccer. His billboard reads: "No wonder you're such a gosh darn good player having come from Plano: The City of Excellence. Show them there's nothing Plano about your game."
McKennie, from Little Elm, played for the FC Dallas Academy as a young soccer player and currently plays for Juventus in Italy's Serie A.
"Lasso" wrote in his message: "You may be from Little Elm, but there's nothing small about the way you play the game."
The FIFA World Cup kicks off November 20, and Team USA takes on Wales Monday, November 21.
