80-year-old Kang Lee has owned and operated the sushi restaurant Sushiya in downtown Dallas since 2008.
Like many businesses, they were deeply affected by the pandemic, and had to lay off many of their staff to help offset the amount of business lost.
When all hope seemed to be fading away, Kang's grandson Andrew Kim stepped in, and with a viral TikTok saved his grandfather's restaurant.
Kim has 637,000 followers on the social media platform, and recorded a short video to help his grandfather's business. Since posting the video, it has amassed almost six million views and almost two million likes.
The day after posting the video, the restaurant was packed. Kim told WFAA, "Grandpa called, and he told me it was crazy and that they were packed. It was so unexpected."
Business has picked up so much, Lee was able to hire back most of the staff he had to let go, and his revenues have gone from 50% of what they were before the pandemic to 95%.
Needless to say, he is very thankful for his grandson. Lee said outside his restaurant, while holding a picture of baby Andrew, "Thank you, Andrew! I love you!"
