Super Bowl LVII featured the first ever all-female flyover during the performance of the National Anthem, and leading the pack was one of our own!

Arielle Ash, a native of Abilene and alumni of Wyle High School and Texas Tech university led the crew, which commemorated 50 years of women pilots in the Navy!

Ash went to Wylie Abilene, and graduated from Tech in 2012.

She told KCBD flying an F/A-18 is the coolest part about being in the Navy, along with getting to fly with some of her closest friends.

Former chancellor of Texas Tech Kent Hance, former congratulated Ash on Twitter and pointed out that Texas Tech was represented on the field, as well; Patrick Mahomes, quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, played for Tech before joining the NFL.

Women were first admitted to U.S. Navy flight school in 1973.

Ash is a member of Strike Fighter Squadron 122 - the Super Hornets, after having joined the Navy eight years ago; she now serves as a lieutenant.

Ash said in a press release, "I learned that hard work, initiative and determination will get you far.

"You can be the best person on a team, but the best leaders and team players are the ones who use their actions to speak for themselves."
