The Sandlot will forever be remembered as one of the greatest baseball movies of all time, and it no doubt is full of lessons that can be carried throughout life.

How to perform CPR probably isn't that high on those lessons, though.

However, not only did twin brothers Bridon and Christian Hassig learn proper CPR technique from the 1993 movie, they were able to apply what they learned and save their father Brad while he was drowning in their backyard pool.

The Hassigs along with a couple of friends were hanging out in their Mountain Brook, Alabama pool while Brad was doing some underwater breathing exercises.

Hassig told TODAY Parents, "It was a typical afternoon — we had music on the speakers and I was doing breathing exercises underwater to relax.  I wasn't pushing myself or trying to be a Navy Seal."

He suddenly lost consciousness.  Thankfully, Bridon and a friend noticed Brad slumped over underwater in a cross-legged position.  They, along with Christian, were able to pull Brad out of the pool, and while Christian went to alert a neighbor to call 911 (their mother was at work and neither boy has a cell phone), Briden began performing CPR.

He had no formal training or instruction, though.  Everything he knew, he learned from The Sandlot.

Brad came to, and paramedics rushed him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with hypoxia (low oxygen in the organs and tissue), pulmonary edema (caused by fluid buildup in the lungs) and shortness of breath.

Hassig has vowed to never do breathing exercises underwater or swim alone again.

He says, "I'm so proud of my boys. I tell them, 'Remember you guys are heroes' and I will be grateful to them forever."

Hassig's sons will also now take formal CPR training and he gave them cell phones just in case of future emergencies.
