This year is the 20th anniversary of the release of Vanessa Carlton’s amazing song “A Thousand Miles,” and in honor of the track’s anniversary, Carlton is dishing on some of its secrets.
For the first time, Carlton revealed that the song is actually about a “famous actor” she had a crush on when they were younger!

Carlton explained during an interview with ET, “The song is about a crush I had on a Juilliard student. I can't say the person's name because they are a famous actor and I don't want to say it.”
Carlton explains the history of the song in a new Vice documentary The Story of A Thousand Miles By Vanessa Carlton, but it will only add to further explanation about who the song is about.
"I'm purposefully, I’m not attaching a gender and it will remain like that," the singer vowed, adding that it's better for everyone if the song's subject remains a mystery.
Carlton also admitted that for a time she began hating to perform the song, but that after 20 years she’s made with its popularity.
"I figured out how to make peace with that song, how to honor people’s connection with that song and realize that song does not belong to me anymore," she said.
"That allows me to move forward as a musician."
