Our Dr. Miles Intervention involves a couple who is having a dispute as a newly married couple.
He wants his fiancée to change her last name, but she has no desire to do so.
She's hispanic, and doesn't want to lose that bit of her heritage by changing her last name. Also, she hates the "patriarchal" nature of taking her husband's last name and becoming something he "owns."
However, his parents are ADAMANT that she take his last name, and say that they won't even accept her if she doesn't change her last name.
What should Stephanie do? Give up part of her culture to appease his parents? Is there a compromise the two can work out? Or does Kip need to realize that his PARENTS should not determine qualms in their relationship?
