Our Dr. Miles Intervention involves a young mother on Reddit who had to have a very tough conversation with her own mother, regarding her baby son.
Apparently, this woman has had to repeatedly tell her mother that her baby is not her "do over baby," and needs to stop encroaching on her parenting.
Apparently, the woman was taken by DHS when she was three, and they weren't returned to their mother's custody until she was 15. Her mother also had a third child that she gave up for adoption before the child was even born.
Her son is now 5, and her mother is constantly buying tickets for events and activities that she doesn't know about until the day of and even worse, she seemingly overrides EVERY parenting decision this woman makes, and has no regard for her parenting choices.
Even further, her mother will only allow her son to watch 90s cartoons and movies, since the "now days movies suck."
It all came to a head when her mother tried to make her son take off a Minecraft hoodie so she could throw it away while saying, "its trash and my child wouldn't be caught dead wearing it."
The woman shouted at her mom, "my child is not your do over baby. Hes allowed to like whatever he wants from his OWN decade. Stop trying to relive your parenting time with your grandson. You had three chances to raise a child but never stepped up to the plate. Now start acting like a grandmother and not a mother before I move across the country and treat you like a holiday relative."
So is this woman in the wrong for shouting at her mother that her child is not her "do over baby?"
