Nancy Crampton Brophy is an author from Oregon who in 2011, self-published an essay titled "How To Murder Your Husband."

Well, Brophy is now on trial because she's been implicated in the shooting death of her husband.


63-year-old Daniel Brophy, who was found dead in June 2018, and traffic cameras picked up Crampton Brophy's minivan at the culinary school where he worked near 7:30 a.m, the time of his death.

Multnomah County Senior Deputy District Attorney Sean Overstreet told jurors that Crampton Brophy followed her husband to work and fatally shot him twice in the back, in order to collect a $1.4 million life insurance policy.

In 2011, Crampton Brophy wrote an essay titled "How to Murder Your Husband." in which she listed five potential motives for the murder, with financial, cheating, and abuse among them.

According to YourTango, Crampton Brophy specifically mentioned financial motivations for murder, writing, "Divorce is expensive, do you really want to split your possessions?"

In the essay, Crampton Brophy also included a list of potential murder weapons; a gun was listed among them.
