Rebecca Mix's father Jeff unfortunately lost his job last year because of the pandemic.
At 58-years-old, Jeff wasn't exactly ready to hang up the work boots, so he asked Rebecca for help navigating the current job market, with one particular business in mind for his new dream job: working at Costco.
After learning this information, Rebecca took to Twitter and posted a couple of tweets about her father's ambitions and his skills to help him "stand out," and then forgot about them.
my dad has been laid off due to covid and now that he's vaccinated he's itching to go back to work, so i told him i'd help him with his resume. i asked him where he wants to work, and he said, SO earnestly, "costco seems like a nice place" i'm gonna cry lol

And then, Rebecca received a response from Costco.
Not just any Costco store or employee, but from Costco CEO Craig Jelinek!

After receiving the response, Rebecca could hardly contain her excitement. She told The Guardian, "I called my dad, who didn't answer, texted him a screenshot, and called him again. As someone who only FaceTimes by accident, he didn't really understand why I was freaking out. The sheer ridiculousness of a random tweet making it to the desk of the Costco chief executive mostly escaped him."
Jeff was still overtly cautious, but after nailing the second interview, he was able to text Rebecca a picture of his brand new employee badge.

After his first shift, Jeff checked in with Rebecca and told her it was everything he'd dreamed it would be.
Rebecca is thankful for this bright light in what has been more than a year of heartbreak. She said, "The past year has not been a kind one to my family. Like many, we didn't emerge from the pandemic without the loss of loved ones. It's a gift to have this odd, wonderful, weird spark of joy amid a time of grief and chaos."
