Out in West Texas, some 60 miles northwest of Marfa, there is a ghost town called Lobo that has been abandoned since 1991.
And the town could be all yours for $100,000!
Around two decades ago, a group of friends from Germany purchased Lobo with the intent of using it as a vacation spot and to host art events and film festivals. Unfortunately, upkeep on the town has proven difficult and cumbersome, and now the friends are seeking a buyer.
Not much remains of the town these days: an old grocery store, a vacant motel, and a boarded-up gas station, but the owners have a particular vision of the town in the event they find a new owner.
One of the owners Alexander Bardorff told Texas Monthly, "We are not just trying to make a profit. We would like to find a group of people that want to do something interesting out there. Not necessarily what we did, but some idea."
To find their buyer, Bardoff and the others owners will host a casual open house over Memorial Day weekend; all are invited to attend, including bands that would like to perform.
"They can camp for free. They can use the bathhouse," Bardoff said. "Just enjoy being out in the desert, enjoy the atmosphere, enjoy the solitude."
