The days of putting your cell phone in "Airplane Mode" while on a flight may very well be starting to end.
Next summer, passengers flying within Europe will not only be able to keep their phones on and out of Airplane Mode, but they'll be able to take phone calls, while in the middle of their flights!
The European Commission recently ruled that airlines can provide 5G technology on board planes, setting a deadline for planes to implement these features by June 30, 2023.
While it seems that this technology should be available to planes around the world, according to Euronews Travel, one official noted that there's "much less prospect of interference" in Europe, where they have a different set of frequencies for 5G, and there are "lower power settings" than those in the United States.
So not only will we have to deal with screaming babies and loud chewing, now we have to listen to people talking on their phones the entire flight.
We suggest investing in a really good pair of headphones.
