South Carolina has been paid another installment from the settlement nearly all U.S. states signed with the major tobacco companies in 1998.State Attorney General Alan Wilson said Monday most of the nearly $79 million in the 2019 payment will go to help pay for Medicaid.Wilson said in a statement that South Carolina has received nearly $1.6 billion over more than two decades from the settlement.The settlement was made with what were the four major tobacco companies in 1998. It restricted the advertising and marketing of cigarettes and made arrangements for yearly payments to cover health care costs from tobacco use.
