Crazy Rent Increases

If you think rent in Greenville has been growing at an extreme rate, you’re not crazy.

A new report shines a light on just how rapidly Greenville’s rent prices have risen in the past year.

According to Apartment List, a San Francisco based tech company specializing in the apartment rental marketplace, Greenville’s rent prices rose 4.2 percent compared to this time last year.

That marks the largest rent increase by percentage of any city in the state of South Carolina.

By comparison, national growth was just 1.3 percent, which means Greenville tripled the national average.

That doesn’t take into account all the new apartment units currently under construction. Go to downtown Greenville and it’s easy to see all the new buildings coming up – a total of 800 new units expected just in downtown alone.

Average prices for a two bedroom have risen to about $870 a month in Greenville, lower than the national average of $1,170. As for one bedrooms, those will run you $720 a month on average. Although if you’re looking to live downtown, you’re probably going to have to double that.
