E Coli in Reedy River

We all know there’s a certain type of person who will jump on into the water of the Reedy River no matter how many warnings there are about microbes and bacteria. Likely the same type of person who will shrug off the expiration date on a jug of milk so long as it doesn’t smell too funky.

So your reactions to the warning sent out to would-be swimmers in the Reedy River really depends on what you consider dirty.

One of the major concerns measured with regard to water safety is the presence of E Coli, and the spot of Reedy River right in the heart of downtown is consistently shown to have levels higher than normal.

In fact, the government has deemed the river “impaired” and named it one of the most polluted waterways in all of South Carolina – again, because of its super high levels of E Coli.

E Coli typically comes from animal’s digestive systems – in other words, fecal matter.

But if you’re one of those people who just judges based on smell, feel free to dive on in.

Just don’t be surprised if you get sick later on.
