A teenage boy is dead after a shocking attack in what most would consider an unlikely part of the Upstate. While normally quiet and slow moving McCormick County is in shock, after two teenagers were arrested after another teen was found dead at a lake, there Monday.
Officials responded to the Modoc Shores Community, around 7AM Monday. Upon arrival, deputies found 13 year old, Daryl Lowry dead at the dock. Warrants say, Lowry was attacked with a knife and was held under water. SLED reports, that 17 year old Landen Austin Moore has charged with murder in connection to Lowry's death. Moore was booked into the McCormick County jail.
A 16 year old, who has not been publicly identified due to their age, is also charged in the case and was taken to the DJJ facility in Columbia.
Investigators say, a fight at the boat dock led to the incident. The dock is owned by Bernie Hamby and the boys were said to be under his foster care. Hamby is the Chairman of the McCormick County Council. Hamby has not been charged with any sort of wrongdoing.
