Ex-Prosecutor Pleads Guilty To Fraud

A former South Carolina prosecutor has pleaded guilty to taking public money for hotel rooms in Chicago and Las Vegas and a plane ticket in Panama.Dan Johnson accepted a plea deal to one count of wire fraud Tuesday in federal court, sitting on the other side of a courtroom after two decades as a police officer and prosecutor.Federal prosecutors said Johnson took $44,000 of public money for vacations and romantic liaisons. They say Johnson began his scheme in 2015 when the person who scrutinized his work credit card bills for five years left.Prosecutor Winston Holliday says he will likely recommend a one year to 18-month prison sentence when Johnson is sentenced later this year. The maximum sentence is 20 years.Johnson also faces state charges.
