Graham: "The Case is Over"

Senator Lindsey Graham reacts to Robert Mueller’s televised address. Here’s Evan Smith with the details:

“If we had confidence that the president did not commit a crime, we would have said so.”

So said Robert Mueller while addressing the nation for the first time since being appointed special council.

His remarks, during which Mueller said indicting President Trump was not an option given existing Justice Department guidelines, have only served to further divide the response from representatives on the left and right.

Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Democrat Jerry Nadler, said the statement from Mueller only affirms Trumps complicity in attempting to obstruct justice.

“The special council has clearly demonstrated that President Trump is lying,” Nadler said in a live streamed address.

For his part, South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham said in a statement of his own:

“Today’s statement by Mr. Mueller reinforces the findings of his report.  And as for me,” Graham added, “the case is over. Mr. Mueller has decided to move on and let the report speak for itself. Congress should follow his lead.”

Robert Mueller did indeed say in his statement that it was his hope and his intention to say no more on the matter, and as of today he says he is officially resigning from the Justice Department, ostensibly putting a final end to the special council.

That is, assuming he isn’t subpoenaed in the coming weeks for further testimony.
