The person who won the $1.5 billion Mega-Millions jackpot has come forward to claim their prize.

The individual, who decided to remain anonymous, opted to collect the prize as a one-time lump sum of $877,784,124.

The emergence of the winner, though anonymously and through a New York City-based attorney, finally ends the mystery that had been ongoing for the past fives months.

The deadline for accepting the prize was April 19.

The single largest payout in lottery history, the prize also meant $61 million in income taxes for the state of South Carolina. Last month, state legislators began hedging their bets as to whether or not they would actually get that money, and so began to plan for the worst.

The winner coming forward means teh State Budget Office is now breathing a sigh of relief.

The odds of winning the jackpot was about 1 in 302 million.
