
AccelerateSC held two meetings today: one with the Protection Committee and one with the Resources Committee.
James Burns of Nelson Mullins was appointed by Governor Henry McMaster to conduct and manage AccelerateSC.
Burns moderated both meetings, and Governor McMaster joined each meeting by phone while on a trip to Charleston.
During the Protection Committee meeting, authorities and community leaders discussed how PPE is obtained and its availability.
Chuck Spangler of South Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership listed a few difficulties they have run into thus far.
Spangler said small healthcare provider orders getting pushed back and that it is hard to fill small quantity orders for N95 masks and other key PPE.
He went on to say that 70 - 90% of PPE is made overseas and many countries are not allowing exports at this time.
The Protection Committee discussed creating a PSA about proper use of masks and gloves.
The Resources Committee reviewed packets about expenditures and asked questions based on those expenditures for much of the meeting.
Bryan Gaines of the Executive Budget Office outlined many of the expenditures related to COVID-19.
Thus far, $42.4 million has been spent on testing and contact tracing in South Carolina.
All AccelerateSC subgroups will meeting together on Tuesday May 19th.
