Authorities are conducting a search for a Laurens woman who shot at deputies earlier today while running barefoot away from them.
According to a Facebook post by the Laurens County Sheriff's Office, the search began after deputies were attempting a traffic stop.
The woman, later identified as Melissa Miller, fled on foot.
As deputies pursued her on foot, she fired shots over her shoulder.
No deputies were hit by the gunshots.
She discarded her firearm and it was recovered by the police.
An update to their post at 1:15 PM said the LCSO is still actively searching the area for the subject and it is an ongoing scene.
A perimeter was set up around the area.
Miller is described as a short white female with short brown hair.
At the time of the incident, she was wearing a gray tank top, blue jean shorts, and no shoes.
Authorities say not to approach Miller.
They ask anyone who sees any suspicious activity in the area to report it to 911.
