Beginning January first, individuals may receive a federal tax credit of up to $1,700 for qualified cash contributions to these organizations; $3,400 for married couples filing jointly.

The organizations use those contributions to provide scholarships for education-related expenses, including tuition, tutoring, fees and school supplies.
