Sept. 3, 2020: There's still another twist to the story of a Fountain Inn man found shot to death in the yard of a Laurens County church.

The Coroner says 29 year old Kevern Simmons died of gunshot wounds, his body found behind the Pentecostal Holiness Church on Academy Street in Clinton Tuesday night.

Police first got a call about 7p.m. reporting a car wreck there.

But investigators say he had been treated for a gunshot wound to the arm and released from Greenville Memorial Hospital on Monday.

And now there's also a police report of a woman shot and wounded who turned up at the hospital while they were on the scene at the church.

It's not certain, they say, whether that shooting is related to the Simmons murder at this point.

Sept. 2, 2020:  A SLED crime scene unit is joining Laurens County investigators on the case of a Fountain Inn man found dead at the wheel of his car in a churchyard Tuesday night.

The coroner has scheduled an autopsy today, but for now can't say how 29 year old Kevern Dimone Simmons died.

Clinton Police found him when they responded to a call reporting a traffic accident in front of the Pentecostal Holiness Church on Academy Street.

The coroner does say the "incident" -- his word -- did not happen at the church.
