Heads up to Panthers fans out there: Cam Newton will not be returning to play this Sunday against the Houston Texans.
Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera announced on Monday that the team’s quarterback Cam Newton will remain on the bench for the second week in a row following a lingering mid-foot sprain.
Rivera did not indicate when Newton would return, saying there was “no timetable” for his return.
The 2015 league MVP is continuing to receive treatment for his injuries, having hurt his foot in a preseason game and then reinjuring it in the Panthers’ week two loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Since then, Newton has remained off the practice field as well.
