(GREENVILLE, SC) On Thursday, January 30, 2020 the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office welcomed a new friend to their Arson unit; a 2 year-old, yellow Lab K9, named “Pheonix”, who will be trained to specialize in accelerant detection.
Thanks to the generosity of ScanSource, the Arson unit received the new dog during the January 30th press conference.
Over the years ScanSource has been an extremely vital part of the success of the Sheriff’s Office by funding numerous projects and equipment not provided in the tax payer’s budget.

Anytime the Sheriff’s Office is in need of equipment or projects to foster a safer environment to the community, ScanSource jumps to the rescue by providing a helping hand.

This is another example of the tremendous opportunities provided by the Sheriff’s Foundation, as the acquisition of the K9 would not have been possible without it.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s foundation is a non-profit entity whose mission is to provide grants to purchase equipment, provide specialized training, encourage professional development and provide Scholarships to the Sheriff’s Office Children seeking a higher education.
Our funding comes from people and organizations that help provide the monetary resource to make these grants available.
We would like to recognize Stacy Kuper, our Vice Chair and head of Fundraising for all her efforts nurturing the corporate partnerships that support our efforts.

We also want to extend our sincere appreciation to Astro Kennels for lending their facility to host the press conference and for providing the training for our new K9.
The new K9 will play a hug role in assisting investigators with searching fire scenes and pinpointing the exact location of any liquid accelerant that might have been used to start or aid a fire.
The Sheriff’s Office is extremely excited about our newest asset and we look forward to the continued success of our arson unit.
