The COVID-19 drive-through testing site at Greenville Memorial Hospital will shift to an earlier work schedule beginning Wednesday to help its workers and patients avoid extended time in the afternoon heat.
Effective Wednesday, the new hours will be 7 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Weekend hours will continue as 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays and 1-4 p.m. Sundays.
While the testing site will be open until 3 p.m. on weekdays, the line will be monitored and closed off to new vehicles as early as 2 p.m. in order to help ensure the site can test all patients in line by the posted 3 p.m. time.
The heat index for some areas of the Upstate could be as high as 105 degrees Fahrenheit this week, according to the National Weather Service.
For information on schedules at the Upstate’s four other Prisma Health hospital-based drive-through test sites, visit www.prismahealth.org/coronavirus.
The site also has information on newly announced community testing sites hosted by Prisma Health.
The community sites, typically held at schools with limited shelter from sun and weather, had already been shifted to a 8 a.m. to noon testing schedule several weeks ago to help reduce heat strain.
