Released by the Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor's Office.
Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins states that Samuel Lamar Burnside, age 30, was convicted on January 8, 2020 by a Greenville County jury of Murder and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime, and sentenced to 45 years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections by the Honorable Edward W. Miller.
Evidence presented at the trial by Assistant Solicitors Brian Moroney and Anthony McCollum established that on August 5, 2017, Samuel Lamar Burnside picked up the victim at the Southern Suites motel.
Burnside and the victim began arguing inside Burnside's vehicle later in the evening.
During the course of the argument, Burnside physically assaulted the victim, and then drove her to the intersection of Sagitarius Way and Stables Road.
Upon arrival, Burnside forcibly removed the victim from his vehicle and shot her three times, killing her.
The victim was left in the middle of the roadway where she was discovered later by a passerby.
Forensic evidence, surveillance, and witness statements ultimately led law enforcement to Burnside.
The case was investigated by David Picone with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.
