Sheriff Hobart Lewis being sworn in

Hobart Lewis was officially sworn into office as the new Greenville County Sheriff.

Sheriff Lewis took the oath of office Monday morning in front of his family and Greenville deputies.

"Now let's go to work," was the first thing the new sheriff had to say after being sworn in.

"I am delighted to be the new Sheriff of Greenville County," Lewis said after the ceremony. "Rest assured I will do everything in my power to uphold my responsibility as Sheriff in such a way that our agency's obligations as first responders, investigators and public servants fulfills our community's expectations of service."

The Sheriff's Office special election on March 10 was to elect a sheriff to finish the remaining year of former Sheriff Will Lewis' term.

He was removed from office after he was found guilty of misconduct in office.

Another election will take place in November for a full four-year term, and new Sheriff Hobart Lewis says he plans to run for re-election then.
