Governor Henry McMaster has asked all school districts in South Carolina to provide options for both in-person education and virtual education.
He began by saying that the state needs to take every step to make sure children get back in their classrooms and provide parents a choice.
"I am calling on all the public school districts to submit reopenings plan that give parents the option to send their children back to school 5 days a week or parents can choose to keep their children home and receive virtual instruction," Gov. McMaster said.
The governor reported he will not draft an executive order concerning this.
He also asked schools to start on September 8th to provide enough time to prepare for reopening.
"Nothing is more essential than giving each of our children an excellent education," Gov. McMaster said.
The SC Department of Education already required reopening plans to be submitted by Friday, July 17th.
