Early this morning while most people were sleeping, beverages were taken from the Pepsi plant in Spartanburg and placed into a unique get-away vehicle: a trashcan.
Spartanburg police were called to the Pepsi Beverages Company shortly after 1 AM about a larceny in progress.
When the officer did not see the suspect, he called the witness, who said she saw a man she identified as her neighbor leave the Pepsi plant with a trash can full of sodas.
The witness said her neighbor had stolen her trash can, filled it with sodas, came back to her house, and put a single crate of Pepsi cans on her back porch before he ran off.
The suspect reportedly lives just down the street from the witness.
During the investigation, the officer found the witness' trash can down the street, still filled with sodas.
Authorities contacted a worker at the Pepsi plant, who said the suspect had been stealing from them for years.
The Pepsi employee along with authorities from SPD returned the 12 stolen cases of drinks to the plant; the witness was also given back her trash can.
The investigation is ongoing.
