The City of Greenville hosted its first online press conference today.

Mayor Knox White began the conference by saying the two words of the day are "reopening" and "testing."

White continued to say that even when stores reopen social distancing will be with us in one form or another for some time.

"These business that will be open and humming will still look different and it is definitely on us right now to start talking about helping those business figure out how they are going to look different.  They are going to be open but they're not gong to operate in the same fashion that they have in the past," White said.

Carlos Phillips with the Greenville Camber of Commerce released information from a recent local survey.

One of the important findings was four key things businesses need to continue: cash, customers, confidence, and communication.

Phillips elaborated further on necessary steps in the way forward.

Dr. Brannon Traxler with DHEC encouraged the public to continue being strong and acting on best practices.

"We realize we are asking a lot of citizens and that it is not easy.  What we're calling on South Carolinians to do by staying home and limiting contact is critical to controlling the spread of this virus and ultimately to saving lives," Traxler said.

All authorities presented echoed the fact that future plans to decrease closures are all dependent on everyone continuing to do their part by following recommendations from public health officials.

There will be another online press conference next Friday.
