The victim of a shooting yesterday [Sunday] on Qualls Hill Drive has been identified by the Oconee County Coroner.  63 year old Roger Qualls was found with a gunshot wound in the Madison Community, near the South Carolina/Georgia state line.  Emergency crews responded to Qualls Hill Drive around 2:15pm Sunday after receiving a call that a man had been shot. 

The caller that made the report was not the victim.


Qualls death has been ruled a homicide.  

The Sheriff's Office is asking the public to come forward with any information by contacting the Oconee County Sheriff's Office at 864-638-4111 or CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC.

8/30/20 - Master Deputy Jimmy Watt, Public Information Officer with the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, issued the following media release Sunday,

(Walhalla, SC) - The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that has occurred this afternoon in the southern part of Oconee County.

The E-911 Communications Center received a call around 2:15pm in reference to a report of a man who had been shot.  The call came from an address on Qualls Hill Drive, which is near the Madison Community off of Highway 123 near the South Carolina/Georgia border.  The caller that made the initial report was not the victim.  

Deputies and paramedics were dispatched to the scene as well as Investigators and the Crime Scene Unit.  On scene, Investigators discovered a white man with an apparent gunshot wound.  The Coroner’s Office has been called to the scene.    

At this time, based upon evidence gathered so far in the initial part of the investigation, investigators believe the shooting to be suspicious in nature.  The Sheriff’s Office does not release any information regarding patient condition or information regarding potential suspects.
