An autopsy confirmed that a Pickens County teenager found dead on the side of the road was a homicide.

The victim, Robert Tyler Butler, age 16 of Easley, was found on the side of Saluda Dam Road in Easley on Saturday afternoon. That’s according to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.

The autopsy, performed Monday, determined that Butler was shot with a small caliber weapon, according to a statement from Deputy Creed Hashe.

The body was found by a passing motorist.

Pickens County Sheriff Rick Clark urged residents to pray for Butler’s family as officers pledge to bring the person or persons responsible to justice.

“Please join us as we pray for Tyler’s family and friends as they attempt to understand and cope with this traffic and senseless loss of life,” Pickens County Sheriff Rick Clark said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to each and every one of them as we remain focused on the mission at hand, which is to bring the person or persons responsible for his death to justice.”
