Wyche Restoration Stalled

Some more setbacks for a proposed plan to redevelop the area surrounding the Peace Center.

Last week we reported on the meeting that was being held to discuss the proposed master plan to update the downtown area.

Specifically on the docket was the restoration of the Wyche Pavilion.

Already initial plans for the renovation had to be amended due to the designs not meeting standards when it comes to renovating a historic structure.

Now it appears that further changes will be needed, as the city of Greenville’s Design Review Board voted against the proposed redesign in a 3-2 vote at Tuesday’s public meeting.

Citing noncompliance with National park Service guidelines for historic structures, the board called for further changes.

The Peace Center still can appeal the panel’s decision, however – although regardless it appears actual work on the project is still a way’s off.
