A Columbia jail is dealing with another overdose incident, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Officials say, the non-fatal overdose happened at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
This comes just days after a suspected fatal overdose at the same facility. Authorities say, the inmate was found turning blue and was given naloxone by jail staff before being taken to the hospital.
Investigators claim that the inmate later admitted to overdosing after taking drugs inside the jail. The sheriff’s department is now investigating the incident, including possible communication failures in how overdoses at the facility are reported.
There's been no details on what specific drugs were used in the overdose incidents.
