Alligator found during Low Country child sex crime investigation

A child sex crime investigation  led to the discovery of a potentially dangerous and unconventional pet at a Low Country home.

The Jasper County Sheriff's Office says an alligator was found during the search of a home in Ridgeland, Thursday.

Deputies were there to look for evidence in a child sex crime case against the suspect, James Allen Beckett. Following the search and discovery, Beckett was arrested on multiple counts of 1st degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and 1st degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

The SCDNR was called into safely remove the alligator, which officials say was being kept at the home illegally.
