An armed robbery suspect is dead, following an officer involved shooting at an Upstate hotel. The Greenville County Sheriff's Office says deputies approached a Nissan Pathfinder in the parking lot of the Greenville Inn and Suites on South Pleasantburg Drive, around 2:40 Thursday afternoon.
That Nissan matched the description of the SUV involved in an armed robbery investigation in Pickens County. A Shell gas station on Old Easley Bridge Road had been robbed at gunpoint around 9:30AM Thursday. As deputies approached the vehicle, the driver exited armed with a gun and a deputy involved shooting took place.
The driver was hit and was taken to a hospital, where he died just after 3PM. The coroner's office identified the suspect as 45 year old Sean Michael Scates of Mauldin.
No Deputies were injured. Several deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave. SLED is investigating which is standard protocol.
