Authorities are expected to have more to say later today about the officer-involved shooting at the Walmart on Rolling Hills Circle in Easley, Sunday night. Easley Police were first dispatched around 7:00 p.m. on the report of a disturbance outside the store near Highway 123.

That was followed minutes later by calls about a man with a gun. He was shot by police and rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead-on-arrival at the emergency center.

The Pickens County Coroner's Office identifies him as 33-year-old Shawn Elrod.  No one else was hurt. Although no details have been released, an officer on the scene told reporters they had attempted to "de-escalate the situation."

SLED is investigating, standard procedure in all law enforcement shooting incidents.
