An armed suspect is dead after a shootout with deputies in the Upstate, over the weekend. Anderson County Sheriff Chad McBride says, a deputy responded to a report of an armed woman walking in the area of Bradberry Road, just before 8PM Friday.
The woman had reportedly fired the gun at utility poles and homes in the area. When the deputy arrived he reportedly found the woman walking around with a gun. The Sheriff says the deputy ordered her to drop the gun. However, she refused and began firing at the deputy.
The deputy took cover behind his patrol car and then returned fire, striking 55 year old, Linda Ann McAbee. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The deputy was not injured in the shootout.
SLED is investigating which is standard statewide protocol for officer involved shooting.
