A suspect in Western North Carolina is in custody after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 7 year old child. Police say, 42 year old, Roberto De La Cruz- Mendez of Franklin is charged with statutory rape of a child and indecent acts with a child.
The charges come after the Franklin Police Department responded to a home there, last week. Investigators report that one of the charges stem from an incident in 2023 involving the same victim.
Mendez is currently being held without bond in Macon County. He has also been placed on an ICE detainer.
