Suspect to face attempted murder, weapons charges

Simpsonville, S.C. — A man wanted for attempted murder at a hotel in Simpsonville over the weekend has been taken into custody without incident.

With the help of the Greenville County Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit and U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, the Simpsonville Police Department apprehended Jerrico Mercedes Bailey, 33, in Fayetteville, N.C. on Tuesday. Bailey is a suspect in a shooting that happened Sunday afternoon at the Palmetto Inn on North Industrial Drive in Simpsonville.


Simpsonville police found a gun-shot victim outside the Inn lobby near the ice machine upon responding to the reported shooting at around 3 p.m. Bailey left the scene before police arrived.

The victim was taken to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Campus and was in stable condition as of Sunday evening.

Warrants related to the shooting include charges against Bailey for attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and unlawful possession of a firearm by a violent felon.

The Simpsonville Police Department would like to thank the U.S. Marshals task force and agencies in the drug enforcement unit for their assistance.
