On behalf of the Greenville Police Department and the City of Greenville I’m providing an update on the investigation into the death of Brittany Lawson on Augusta Street Saturday morning.
Greenville City Manager John McDonough visited the scene of the hit-and-run fatality with Police Chief Howie Thompson and Interim City Engineer Clint Link this morning to learn more about the circumstances and survey the area.
According to Chief Thompson, GPD has determined the vehicle involved was stolen. They have a suspect in custody for the theft and are waiting on forensics and search warrants to determine whether that person was the driver of the vehicle.
The City Engineer has a meeting scheduled with SCDOT representatives later this week to discuss options to improve driver and pedestrian safety in the Augusta Street area.
